I have a number of websites, both subscription and free. I’ve been asked a number of times about what they are, what kind of photos they have and what the difference is. Here is a brief rundown.
This is my commercial photography website, featuring my advertising, fashion, lifestyle and celebrity photos. After many years of shooting what has been described as iconic, graphic and larger-than-life photos in the fitness industry, some years ago I began applying the same techniques to developing a portfolio aimed at getting jobs and assignments from ad agencies and other more mainstream companies.
My fine art photos are primarily figure studies of aesthetically developed women with muscle, muscularity and definition. I often photograph the muscular female as a piece of sculpture, treating this kind of body the way the Ancient Greeks, Michelangelo and others created statues of athletic males. I view them at least in some cases the way Ansel Adams did desert and mountain landscapes. The defined and developed body is very much like a landscape, with it’s own peaks and valleys, contours and canyons.
THE BILL DOBBINS FEMALE PHYSIQUE WEBZINE/GALLERY
This was the first site featuring female muscle that I developed in 1999. In those early days it functioned as a magazine as well as a subscription website, featuring contest coverage, articles and essays along with increasingly huge galleries of photos. As time went on and several magazines, bodybuilding.com and others began providing same day coverage of competitions, the results and scores of contests were no longer included and there were fewer articles. Nowadays, this URL serves more as a portal to all my sites and to other of my activities, such as my download page and this blog. But the pay subscription area remains very, very big – consisting of hundreds of thousands of images.
THE BILL DOBBINS FEMALE PHYSIQUE ART GALLERY
As the Female Physique Webzine grew in size and scope, I developed a second site developed to female muscle. The Female Physique Art Gallery was designed to feature somewhat more photos that were more erotic in nature, with increased amounts of nudity – although both sites have sexy images and nudes. Neither site, by the way, contains explicit or adult material. Over time this site also grew in size and, while it doesn’t contain quite as many images, there are still hundreds of thousands in the subscription area.
A lot of fans of female bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors, as well as bikini contestants – along with various examples of Amazing Amazons – have a special preference for nude images. To satisfy these fans, I took a large number of the nudes from the Webzine/Gallery and the Female Physique Art Gallery and put them in their own website – Bill Dobbins Nudes.
Many of those who know my photography are not aware that, before turning to shoot photos professionally, I was a singer/songwriter from my teens on for quite a while. I performed in historic venues like The Gaslight, Folk City and The Bitter End along with legends like Emmylou Harris, Arlo Guthrie, Tim Buckley and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. Nowadays the state of the music business is such that it is very difficult to earn money as a performer, to record or to get a publishing contract. So I created this website as a place to showcase my composition, guitar playing and performances.
